    • I received HoMedics Warm and Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier free from Spark Reviewer program. This is a ‘room humidifier’, NOT a whole house or multi-room humidifier. During winter, humidity goes down, causing dry skin, dry sinuses, and nasal cavity. I try to maintain 72° F temperature and about 25% relative humidity in my bedroom for comfort. I wish all these humidifiers came with temperature and humidity indicator, alas none does. This humidifier puts out a visible fine mist that can be set either warm or cool. I set my humidifier for cool mist. Warm mist may be preferred if I had a cold. The unit comes with two tanks. Lift and pull out a tank, turn it over, unscrew the white cap, fill with water and place it back. Repeat the process with the second tank. The water will start to flow down towards the bottom, you may see the water gurgle. There are five controls. From bottoms up, I will define the controls. 1: Power on/off switch, 2: Sprocket symbol: Backlights the volume control knob, 3: Volume control knob to control the volume of mist, 4: Flame to control the temperature of the mist warm (red) flame or cool, 5: Moon/Star: Turns off the entire display to sleep at night. It is totally quiet, no noise, not even a whisper; that’s attributed to its ultrasonic technology. Do NOT run on maximum volume, it will wet your floor. Set it low to medium (halfway on the knob). This setting will make the water last for about 48 hours.
    • The HoMedics Warm/Cold Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier is made of attractive blue/black quality plastic. It seems sturdy and solid to hold a great amount of water 1.7 gallons. It is constructed with see-thru material so the user can actually keep an eye on the level of how much water is being used, great design. It is simple to fill, there is 2 separate tanks to fill with water, that come off the humidifier using the built in handles, making it not too heavy or awkward to return filled with water to the humidifier. It is easy to follow the straight forward instructions buttons on the front have a emblem telling what each function does. There is no messy filters to clean, replace or to wear out. The water tanks last about 3 days, on medium setting running about 8 hours. The steam comes out from the top as a mist it evaporates before hitting the table it sits on and the carpeting, absolutely no leaky water drops anywhere. Since I have never used an Humidifier before I wanted to find out the best water to use and to find out if there are any health concerns. According to the Mayo Clinic web site it recommend only use distilled water in the tanks. The reason why is tap water has minerals that can quickly breed bacteria, mold and fungi. I have only use distilled and will continue to do so. I have noticed that there is no more static electricity in the room where it is being used, also my skin and hair seems to be softer and less dry since using the humidifier. So far I’m very pleased with this product.
    • This humidifier arrived just in time for a cold stretch here. I was amazed at how quiet this humidifier is. I bought my previous one from Wal-Mart and it was a nice one but after about 5 years of using it almost year around it was time to be replaced. This one is awesome it is so quiet you could hear just about hear a pin drop, I was used to my old one but this one unless you are looking at it, you dont know that it is on. I leave mine with the mist turned all the way down, and I can see the mist coming out of it at the top, my old one came out at the lower part of the unit. It can be used for warm or cool mist whichever is preferred, I like the cool mist. Each tank lasts approximately 36 hours. Mine empties almost completely like the instructions say. I have not had to use the cartridges yet that came with it. It has a lit button to tell you it is on. It has a button that turns on the night light and I find using the night light during the day helps me remember that it is on. It has a button to indicate that it has been turned to warm mist and it takes about 20 minutes for the mist to start coming out warm. Then there is the reset button that takes it back to original settings. When the humidifier is turned on it comes out cool mist. You must set it to warm to come out warm mist. I absolutely love mine, I don’t have any problems with mine leaving a white residue. And I have found that by leaving it on the very lowest that each tank will last 36 hours. And it is so quiet and peaceful. I think this would make an excellent gift for anyone. I highly recommend this especially for those who suffer from allergies and they are perfect for using during cold weather to keep some humidity in the air which keeps it warmer and keeps your skin from getting so dry, and they help immensely in summer months too. I give this one 5 stars.
    • This is my first experience with a humidifier. I have mixed feelings about it. It did help with my sinus problems. My sinuses cleared out after a couple hours of running the machine. That was really nice. It put a weird chemical smell in the air. It was like this chemical smell coated the inside of my mouth and nose. Now everything I eat tastes funny. I’ve tried washing my mouth out with mouthwash and brushing didn’t help either. I don’t know if this reaction is from the machine or from my water? The humidifier comes with 2 capsules to put into the water tanks that are supposed to prevent white dust. They helped a little but I still had white dust. I am going to get a water filter for my faucet to see if that helps cut down on the smell and the white dust. I do have hard water and there is a lot of chlorine in my water. I don’t think this white dust issue is a problem with the humidifier. I do like that I can have a warm mist or cool mist. I live in WI and I can really feel the cool air in the room. The humidifier is attractive, I like the way it looks but I don’t like the rounded top on the tanks. The actual tank looks like it has a flat top inside but then there is domed or rounded top attached to the tank so it has a nicer appearance. The only problem is, it’s a pain to fill. You have to turn the tank upside down to fill it and it doesn’t fit very well under my kitchen faucet. I have to hold it an angle and can’t fill the tank completely. It would also be nice if I could set it in the sink to fill it instead of having to balance it on edge. I have a feeling after some time the top is going to chip and end up looking ugly. I think it’s a poor design element. I do like the handles on the side of the tank, they make it easy to carry, especially when it’s full. The instructions say the machine can run up to 72 hours. The first time I used it I wanted to get the humidity up fast so I turned it to 3/4 of the way up and 1 tank lasted about 8 hours. When I turned the setting down to 1/4 it lasts around 12 or 14 hours per tank. There are 2 tanks, 1 on each side of the humidifier. It’s supposed to use water from 1 tank until it’s empty then switch to the other tank. It does not quite work for me. It will not switch from the left tank to the right tank. I have to put the right tank on first then wiggle it around until I can get it to run then I can put the left tank on and it will switch over when the right tank is empty. I can’t figure out why I’m having trouble. I just set the left tank down and it works but I have to play with the right tank several times before it’s in the perfect position to work. Before I can decide if I like it or not, I have to wait until I get a water filter to see if that fixes the funny smell in the air and the white dust. If it doesn’t help them I’m not going to like this machine. I did run the machine without the capsules in the water and there was way way more white dust so the capsules do make a difference. I’m sure there is only so much they can do. It does say you can use distilled water and that will not produce white dust because distilled water doesn’t have chemicals in it like tap water does.
