- The bookcase is heavy and stable, also looks very nice. Only hang-up in assembly was that some of the pre-drilled holes still contained bits of wood which prevented the pieces from joining properly, but once we realized this, it was easy enough to clean them out and re-join the parts.
- Don’t think I’m crazy but it was actually fun putting this together — and I am 72. I’m glad I read through the reviews beforehand and saw the one from “ralld” on the Mission Style four-shelf who says it is easier to assemble if you attach the cross bars in the back before you add the shelves. The style is more interesting than a regular clunky bookcase. That said, I have to give it only four stars because two of the pre-drilled holes for the recessed screws were not big enough for the screw head. I had to go buy different screws.
- This is a lovey piece of furniture. The espresso color is a deep rich brown. I gave this 4 stars because there was slight damage to the underside of the top. Also, the directions are not very clear but if you take the time and think about the style, you shouldn’t have any problems putting this together. I will stress that you should not tighten any screws until you have everything in place. If you do tighten the screws after installing the shelves, it’s next to impossible to attach the rear stabilizing bar because there is a dowel on each end. I put a touch of wood glue on the dowel before installation. I did it by myself and once put together, there is some weight to this. I have it sitting on carpet and the case seems stable.
- NO instructions – but with careful insight – we realized several steps that made the second assembly easier – doing the top first – then the sides on a soft beach towel to avoid scratching the case worked well – all items were available and assembled in 45 minutes from the time of case-to-floor standing. Excellent choice for books and game items needed for our new home. – lemon oil treatment released all the dust on the items in packing adding a glow to the room as well.
- I unfortunately would not recommed this bookcase. We ended up returned it after opening the package and seeing how cheap it looked. It’s very short (only about 36″ tall) and is in my opinion, not worth $80 but maybe I’d pay $20. It would be good for a kids room because it’s small but the shelves are not tall enough to fit binders or anything too tall. Overall, we just were not impressed.
