Easy to install. Comfort of knowing it connects to my phone and can verbalize the issue along with warning beeps. Both smoke and CO2 in one provides added security. The night light feature is convenient and I no longer have to turn on my hallway light for quick trips in and out of the upstairs bedrooms.
Installation was a breeze with the provided hardware and the trouble-free app making the network connection. I can understand the limitation on the battery-powered, model, but I wish the wired model’s path light was a bit stronger; I could retire the nightlight in the hallway if it were. Great pricing at Sam’s Club — this item borders on being too expensive given that you need to replace them every 10 years or so, and you need to have so many to cover a larger home.
The installation was straightforward with easy to follow instructions. I had an issue connecting Protect to my home network; had to unplug my WiFi extender before it would correctly connect to network. Once connected, plug back in extender and everything has been working since.
I own the nest thermostat and it has worked great. The reviews for this also say the same. High priced but also high quality.
I am replacing all my in line smoke detectors with these. They hook up to the house router system on the internet. Easy to install using your cell phone. As part of the over all NEST System, nice to know that if their is smoke or CO2, the thermostat is told to turn off all furnace fans and heat/AC. The CO2 will also last longer instead of normal 6 years, this system will work up to 10 to 12 years. Love the self check up and voice it has, and the ability to control over your phone. Plus at night, it lights up in a dim sort of way.
Doesn’t communicate with security systems, central station and without a certificate there are no insurance credits I purchased 7 hard wired smoke carbon monoxide dectectors and after installation, I learned they can’t communicate with security systems. I purchased 6 Honeywell Tuxedo Security keypads and a Vista panel and the 110V can’t communicate with the low voltage panel. They don’t offer a conversion from WIFI to RF so I will have to purchase additional smoke dectectors and place them 6″ away from the Nest’s. The Nest is the best looking smoke detector I have seen, but it does not integrate with security systems and what good is it when you are inconscious in a fire and it notifies you on your mobile, but the central station has no idea your house is on fire. In addition, you won’t get insurance credits because insurance companies require the security company to provide a certificate that the smokes are linked to the security system. Nest’s look good, but safety comes first. My electrician suggested a different smoke detector to install 6″ away from the Nests so I can integrate into my security system. I cannot list the recommended companies name where I may only have to install one to communicate to the panel where others will require an additional 7 smokes so I will have two per room. Be warned this does not have an RF signal.
