Works great, cools my 195 sq ft garage no problem. Even on economy mode.
Well I have to start with it’s an OK unit and I would recommend it for anyone who is price conscious! It Cools pretty good, Average noise for a window conditioner. Light enough for one person to put it in the window and its easy to set up and run. My cons are 1.) The auto fan does not seem to work when on AC with a temp setting, the compressor shuts down but the fans never slows down even when it gets cool outside and in. 2.) It does not cool as well as my old 12,000 14 year old Frigidaire did. Only replaced it because the fan motor died. So either the old one was actually producing more or the new one is producing LESS, which I believe is the case but this one cost $500.00 less than the old one 14 years ago.
I had never used a Arctic Air product, so I kind of went out on a limb. I’m glad I did! My old, inefficient Montgomery Wards 10k BTU unit was drawing a lot of power, so I upgraded to the 12k BTU Arctic King. This unit was smaller and lighter than the old unit, so I was happy with that. I was impressed with the design: versatility of the air vents, the opening of the entire face-plate for the filter to be removed, and most importantly, the condensation reservoir that the engineers designed for the high-pressure freon line to run thru. This reservoir design allows the freon to cool down more efficiently, thus saving $$. (I often wondered why they didn’t design units like this!) One feature that I missed on Wal-mart’s website is the remote temp sensing feature. VERY COOL. I’ve always hated the sensor on the front of window units: it seemed to be the coolest place in the room, and the room had to get uncomfortable before the unit would cycle back on. NOT WITH THIS FEATURE! With this remote, you can set the temp, leave the remote across the room and it will make the unit cool until it reaches the proper temp WHERE THE REMOTE IS. The only issue is it’s a infared remote, so it has to be in sight of the AC unit to use this feature. The remote has its own manual (I laughed at that one, but understood why after reading it: it works with virtually all Arctic King units, from 5k to 25k!) In my opinion, the remote actually has TOO MANY features, ones that I’ll never use, but some other people might find handy. BTW: the LED display on the front of the unit is a bit dim (in daylight), but the remote has a easy read, light-up display.
Pros Unit works well and cools good. Easy to install. Has many features for remote unit. Would recommend or would purchase again. Cons Thermostat has too much dead band. Yo have to increase thermostat 5 or 6 degrees to get it to cut off then you have to reduce temperature to get it to come back on about same amount. Indoor fan seems a little noisy but works well.
I bought this A/C unit a month ago, and I finally used it last night. I have it in my bedroom for now, it works well. Cools up the bedroom quick if I turn off the energy saver mode (Hence, why I rated it 4 stars). Easy to install. I have no complaints so far. I will be buying another for the rest of the house.
Purchased 4/15 worked fine last summer. Installed A/C today and the buttons on the left side of the unit do not work. I can not lower the temperature. Removed the screws and pushed it out the window.
