- Been wearing them for years. The button is so much better that the clasp of the 874, stronger, more comfortable especially if you have a bit of a belly. The double knee is more comfortable when kneeing. They stay looking good till they are worn out. I am a diesel mechanic and wear the dark navy. It seems to hide the grease stain that shows up in my line of work. Easy to take care of. You can even leave them in the dryer for a couple days and take them out, put them on and still look sharp. My only complaint is that the Dickies navy work shirt Walmart sells does NOT match these pants. Its a whole other shade. Have to buy one that matches from their competitor.
- This is the cheaper version. Notice the belt loops are very thin, which are not the Dickies famous tunnel loops. These are made in Honduras, model 7118738KH. The model you want is 85283KH, which are made in Mexico. Other differences: Honduras made have a button which will fall off and need to be re-sown before the pants wear out. Mexico made pants have a heavy duty metal clasp. While the button is more comfortable, the clasp is integrated very very well and will last the life of the pants, which for me is about 3 years. Other differences: I think the Mexico made model has better stitching. Mexico model has an embroidered white lining around the inside of the waist area with “Dickies” logos all inside it, and just all around seems of a higher quality than the Honduras model. I am an auto insurance adjuster. I buy 3 pair at a time, they last me three years roughly and the reason I replace them is 1) eventually all the oil and fluids my pants are exposed to on a daily basis from crawling under cars will get the better of the pants. They are very stain resistant but eventually do stain. 2) I drive approximately 15,000 to 20,000 miles a year in the company car, and sit in my vehicle for hours on end driving or working. Sliding in and out of the cloth seat constantly wears the fabric just under the groin area, and stretches and pulls at this area, and eventually the fabric starts to thin and threatens to split, although I replace them before that happens, which is about 3 years of daily use, rotating through the three pairs. If you buy these for occasional use, they will probly last you forever, just about.
