    • This was the set I was most looking forward to from the entire 2017 winter wave. I was quit satisfied when I was finished building the set and I think you get a decent sized set for your money as well. The barrier that you can “turn on and off” looks great to me and I’m sure children will like to play with it as well. I had some troubles though, while putting together the mechanism for opening and closing the barrier. But that problem was solved in a couple of minutes, so it’s not that big of a deal. The only thing that’s new about the three minifigures you get is the face of Qui-Gon I think. This set is a great opportunity though to get these minifigures in a relatively cheap set. If you want to know my full thoughts about this set, you can search for “duel on naboo StarWarStuds” and watch the review I made on it!
    • One of the most memorable battles in the Star Wars franchise for me personally, I was so pleased to see the set finally be made! I think it’s great value for money, you get 3 excellent minifigures. I personally prefer the old Darth Maul figure and I find the rubber horns on his head a bit gimmicky and unnecessary but I’m sure kids would love this. The set has great play value, kid’s could send Obi down the pit and use the launch pad to send him flying back out like in the film. Also the red barrier can be opened and closed with a cool mechanic. Personally, I have sets for display only and using a good majority of pieces from this set (although I used a few pieces from other sets I have) I redesigned it for display purposes. I’ve added images of my redesign below, capturing the moment Maul stabs Qui Gon Jinn and sends Obi down the pit as he hangs on for his life whilst Maul looks down upon him.
    • As a parent (and massive LEGO fan who tends to buy sets for myself…and then feel guilty and buy one for my son too) I will pass judgement as an Adult collector and as a parent. As a collector, this is an incredibly beautiful little set. Whilst it does still feel slightly un-finished this set is NOT designed for the AFOL as such and in that sense I appreciate its construction. It serves its purpose in a beautiful way; the Plasma Power Plant, the Laser Walls, the Walkway, the Pit and of course the characters. As an AFOL this set really does provide (in terms of the minifigures) and is great for a collector. For the kids, this set is absolutely fabulous. It provides in stacks and is probably one of the best ‘playset’ sets out there right now. Compare this to the Desert Skiff and this one really comes into its own. The Desert Skiff is good BUT it falls short as a ‘complete’ playset as it does not feel like a complete scene. Obviously the Duel on Naboo has the advantage of the fact that it only has the three characters; but this is what makes this one so great for kids. As an Adult, I would recommend this set to collectors; it’s a fun build, superb minifigures, and perhaps a good excuse to feel a kid again, to feel like its 1999… As a parent, this set is one of the best (if not THE best) out there for kids at the moment. A complete scene (of a brilliant scene!!) and offers them a decent build, plus a compact playset. Value: This set is brilliant value! How would I compare this set? Well to begin with I’d compare it to the Carbon Freezing Chamber of last year…HOWEVER I would say this one is much better as (owing to the source material) it has a far more complete feel to it…in terms of play value and characters. POSITIVES: Line up of Characters, play value, source material, fun little build, VALUE! Negatives: One more wall section would have mitigated EVERYTHING. The lack of a second wall leaves it somewhat lacking, BUT the positives vastly outweigh the negatives here. Verdict: BUY THIS!
    • It’s shocking to think that this lightsaber battle has never been attempted in Lego before, even though it introduced audiences to a brand new kind of lightsaber. These small location sets are good value for money and offer a quick, easy build that’s great for display or play. It’s an interesting build with some interesting techniques used to create the shape. The play features are fun – the ‘laser’ gate swings open and shut (like it turns on and off in the film) and Obi Wan can ‘leap’ out of the shaft when you hit the catapult lever. The minifigures are possibly the best part of this set. Darth Maul is a standout with superb printing on his robes and face. Fans will be pleased to know that his head piece has 9 horns just as he has in the film. Qui-Gon Jinn is movie accurate and again has detailed printing. Obi Wan Kenobi isn’t much different from previous versions but is good minifigure. This is a great set for either re-enacting the scenes from The Phantom Menace or as a Prequels display piece. Either way locations are rare in Lego form and this set captures it really well.
    • Bought this more for Darth Maul than the lego set and to be honest I wasn’t overly impressed with the set, it was surprisingly basic and didn’t seem to represent the scene from Star Wars that it was based on. That said, the minifigures more than make up for the basic set and I was impressed with the design of Maul!
