- Easy to assemble, but careful about over tightening the rods around the table top (rods might not end up square with the table if you do so, but may be fixed by loosening). Tightening screws after the frames pieces are together is usually best, and recommended in the instruction booklet I believe. Fear not if pieces arrive damaged, the manufacturer, Sauder, is really good about sending replacement pieces for free, no questions asked. Would rate 4 out 5 for the slightly cheaper particle board quality, but rated 5 for reasonable price (figuring that’s the trade-off). I’ve purchased other Sauder products before that were still not real wood, but were a bit better engineered wood. Hard to describe “levels” of particle board quality…the sawdust/wood particles in other pieces were smaller and seemed to have a smoother finish, perhaps due to better glue or material, and seemed like they’d hold up better. In this product the un-veneered edges reveal bigger, rougher, and slightly looser particles. Looks decent once assembled, but might be a concern to some expecting better.
- I bought one of these desks for a spare bedroom. My daughter – who is a teacher -liked it so much that she wanted one for her apartment to grade papers on. Very durable and looks nice too.
- I bought 2 of this desk. They were not overly complicated to put together and went together easy. There were no mis-drilled holes or anything out of alignment. It is a strong sturdy desk and looks very nice.
- I’m very pleased with this desk. It’s even better than I thought it would be. Very easy to assemble. It is a quality product.
- The box arrived in good condition. It took about 40 minutes to put the desk together. It’s a great writing/laptop desk. In fact, we have 2! The 2 drawers are good for storing paper, pens and pencils. The desk is sturdy enough, but I wouldn’t recommend jumping on top of it. All in all a good desk, worth the $$.
- Well built and sturdy. I looked at this in the store then ordered it online and had it delivered to the home. It was delivered in excellent condition and was easy to put together .
- Once again I’m glad I ignored the negative ratings, I think they were placed by trolls, I read prior to purchasing this piece! It looks great, works well for my needs, laptop and a place to put my portable drafting board, and I like it!! I’m a veteran of RTA furniture AND I can read so anyone saying parts don’t fit or the laminate finish ripped obviously didn’t take the time to READ the excellent directions provided by Sauder. Also it states VERY CLEARLY power drills are NOT to be used. GREAT price, thanks Walmart. GREAT piece, thanks Sauder.
- I love my Metro desk and glad that I purchased it. It fits very well in my small room and quite functional modestly.
- The over all desk was easy to put together. I was a pro after 3! It’s only been a few weeks but I think they look and work great. The ends of the top of the desk easily fray, but doesn’t damage the overall look or feel.
- I have assembled probably 25-30 different types of furniture from microwave carts to bookcases to entertainment units in my life, some easy, some not so much. This desk was absolutely the most difficult, convoluted assembly I have run across!. When I saw the unit in the store it looked like it wouldn’t be too hard so I ordered it online because the store was out of stock. Halfway through the assembly, which was designed by a sadistic engineer, I discovered that the top piece of the desk was flawed. Hoping that the finished product would hide most of the flaws, I kept going as I couldn’t bear the thought of having to assemble it a second time. But it was not to be and we requested another unit. Then I not only had to assemble another unit but I was required to disassemble the first unit and REPACKAGE and return it. No, I could not return it to the store as that would be far too convenient. I thought about donating it but cringed at the fact that I would then be charged for 2 of these. I will never order something like this from Walmart online again and I will consider very seriously ever purchasing a Sauder brand assemble-at-home piece of furniture in the future. Walmart did arrange for the item to be picked up from our home. The assembled piece looks just like the picture and functions properly.
