- I purchased this item for my own Emergency Preparedness Kit. However, our complex is sponsoring an Emergency Preparedness Fair next week as part of national preparedness month, which is September. I plan to display it as a recommended item because it is a reasonably priced alternative lighting system, which is lightweight and allows the user to dial the intensity depending upon the level of light needed. I plan to purchase another one is use as a raffle prize item.
- My purchase was for home use in case of a power outage. This lantern can be used as a night light or light up the entire room. A friend purchased one and carries it in his car as he travels a lot. This has a lot of uses.

- I just received my lantern and I am very pleased with it. Despite what OzarkTrailCustomerService says, the rotary switch on the lantern I got is variable. There are 8 light outputs in regular mode, plus the indirect mode, which makes 9 different light outputs. You can see in the picture that the rotary switch has many markings on it. I could not figure out why there would be so many markings if the lantern only had 3 settings. Perhaps an earlier version of this lantern only had high, low and indirect modes, but I can assure you, the one I received has 9 light output settings. The only thing I am disappointed about is that right out of the box the lens is all scratched up and scuffed. You can tell that this lantern was not sold, returned, and then sold to me. It came from the factory like this. Some of the other lanterns I have come with either a slightly ridged lens, or one that is kind of smokey, or slightly white in appearance. The lens on this lantern is crystal clear, so it really shows the scratches and scuffs. I have another lantern made by a different company that has a crystal clear lens, but it arrived in perfect condition. I guess it is not that big a deal. This would have happened eventually anyway, but it would have been nice to get mine in “Factory” condition, and the scratches and scuffs were caused by me. This is why I only gave it 4 stars instead of the 5 stars it should have received.
